The area of the whole of anything, whether it&#8217;s an object or a surface, is the sum of the area of its constituent parts.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;headingnew&#8221;]Rules[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>Method 1:<\/strong><br \/>\nLook at the pattern obtained when a three-dimensional figure is laid out flat showing each face of the figure. To find the total area of the net, calculate the area of each separate shape and add the areas together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 2:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Use formulae to calculate the surface area of different 3D solids.<br \/>\n2. Substitute the measurements given into the required formula.<br \/>\n3. Use order of operations to solve to find the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.oryxlearning.com\/question\/maths\/6th-grade\/surface-area-of-rectangular-prisms\">surface area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>i. Use the formula <strong>b x h<\/strong> to find the the surface area of a prism, where <strong>b<\/strong> is the base area and <strong>h<\/strong> is the height of the prism.<br \/>\niii.
