The area of the whole of anything, whether it’s an object or a surface, is the sum of the area of its constituent parts.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”headingnew”]Rules[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>Method 1:<\/strong><br \/>\nLook at the pattern obtained when a three-dimensional figure is laid out flat showing each face of the figure. To find the total area of the net, calculate the area of each separate shape and add the areas together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 2:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Use formulae to calculate the surface area of different 3D solids.<br \/>\n2. Substitute the measurements given into the required formula.<br \/>\n3. Use order of operations to solve to find the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.oryxlearning.com\/question\/maths\/6th-grade\/surface-area-of-rectangular-prisms\">surface area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>i. Use the formula <strong>6a<sup>2 <\/sup><\/strong>to find the the surface area of a cube, where <strong>a<\/strong> is the side length of the cube.<br \/>\nii. Use the formula <strong>b x h<\/strong> to find the the surface area of a prism, where <strong>b<\/strong> is the base area and <strong>h<\/strong> is the height of the prism.<br \/>\niii. Use the formula <strong>S.A. = 2\u03c0rh + 2\u03c0r<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0to find the the surface area of a cylinder, where<strong> r<\/strong> is the radius and <strong>h<\/strong> is the height of the cylinder.<br \/>\niv. Use the formula <strong>S.A. = \u03c0rl + \u03c0r<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong> to find the the surface area of a cone, where <strong>r<\/strong> is the radius and<strong> l<\/strong> is the slant height of the cone.<br \/>\nv. shape.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>three-dimensional shape<\/strong> is a solid shape that has height and depth.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>rectangular prism<\/strong> is a solid (3-dimensional) object which has six faces that are rectangles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regular pyramid<\/strong> \u2013 a pyramid with a base that is a regular polygon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cylinder<\/strong> – A three-dimension figure with two parallel congruent circular bases connected by a curved surface. \u200b<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cone<\/strong> – A three-dimensional figure with one circular base connected by a curved surface to a single vertex.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lateral surface area<\/strong> \u2013 the sum of all of the lateral faces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Slant height<\/strong> \u2013 the height of a lateral
