When comparing two fractions with different numerators and denominators, we can either make their denominators common or compare them to a benchmark fraction such as <img src=\"https:\/\/latex.codecogs.com\/svg.latex?\\fn_phv&amp;space;\\frac{1}{2}\" alt=\"\\fn_phv \\frac{1}{2}\" align=\"absmiddle\" \/>.<\/p>\n<p>Benchmark fractions are most helpful when fractions to be compared are placed on a number line against the benchmarks.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;headingnew&#8221;]Rules[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.oryxlearning.com\/question\/maths\/5th-grade\/rounding-fractions\">To round a fraction<\/a> to the nearest half:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Draw a number line with zero to the far left and the number 1 to the far right.<br \/>\n2. Divide the number line into parts of a whole. The parts are the same as the denominator in the fraction that is being rounded.<br \/>\n3. Number the parts.<br \/>\n4. Find the fraction that is being rounded on the number line.<br \/>\n5.
