A line graph shows how a set of data changes over a period of time. 

Rules

To create a line plot:
1. Write the title at the top of the graph.
2. Label each axis with the appropriate title.
3. Decide on a scale and interval.
4. Graph the pairs of data.
5. Draw a line to connect each point.

Example

The table below shows the number of students that attended a school between 2016-2020. Create a line graph that models the data.

Solution

1. The graph title, axis labels, and scale are given.
2. Graph for each pair of data points. Estimate the location if needed.
For the first point, find 2016 on the horizontal axis, move up to 525 on the vertical axis. Mark the point.
3. Continue the same process for the remaining points.
4. Draw a line to connect each point.
