The mean means average.
The median is the middle number of the data set when in order from the least to the greatest.
The mode is the number that occurred the most often.
The range of a set of data is the difference between the highest and lowest values in the set

Rules

• To find the mean, add together all of the values and divide by the number of addends.

• When looking for the mode, there can be more than one mode or no mode. The mode can tell the most popular choice. When finding the mode, it is best to put the numbers in order. Then count how many of each number. The number that appears most often is the mode.

• To find the median, write the numbers from the least to the greatest and then find the middle number. If there is an even number of data pieces, then average the two middle numbers.

• To find the range, first, order the data from the least to the greatest. Then subtract the smallest value from the largest value in the set.

Example

Mark recorded how many customers came each day to his ice cream stand. Throughout the week, he had 22, 29, 15, 38, 39, 20, and 26 customers. 

Median is the middle number (or midpoint between the two middle numbers) when the numbers are ordered from the least to the greatest. 
Choose the correct median of Mark’s customers.

Solution

1. Order the given numbers from the least to the greatest.
    15, 20, 22, 26, 29, 38, 39

2. The middle number is 26.
