Concepts – Place Value
In our decimal number system, the value of a digit depends on its place, or position in the number. Each place has a value of 10 times the place to its right.
Rules
Read the number from left to right.
In reading, writing and comparing large numbers, group place values into periods ‘ones’, ‘tens’, ‘hundred’, ‘thousand’, ‘10 thousand’, ‘100 thousand’, ‘million’, ’10 million’, ‘100 million’, ‘billion’, ’10 billion’, ‘100 billion’, ‘trillion’, etc.
Every 3 periods are separated by a comma.
