A pie chart is a circular statistical graphic, which is divided into slices to illustrate numerical proportions.

Rule

Pie charts are best to use when comparing parts of a whole. They do not show changes over time.
In a pie chart, the arc length of each slice is proportional to the quantity it represents.

Example

The pie chart represents the students' favorite pie flavors. Which pie flavor was most popular?

 

Solution

The largest slice of the pie is orange. Orange represents the raspberry flavor.

Answer: Raspberry
