Concepts
Proportion is a statement that two ratios are equal. It can be written in two ways: as two equal fractions ab = cd or using a colon, a:b = c:d.
Rate – A ratio that compares two quantities with different kinds of units.
Unit Rate – A rate that is simplified so that it has a denominator of 1 unit.
Complex Fractions – fractions with a numerator, denominator, or both that are also fractions. They are simplified when both the numerator and denominator are integers.
Rule
Write the complex fractions as a division problem with the upper fraction written first followed by a division symbol and then write the lower part of the complex fraction.
