Vocabulary
Coordinate Point: A pair of numbers used to locate a point in the coordinate plane.
Coordinate Plane: A coordinate system in which a horizontal number line and a vertical number line intersect at their zero points.
Intersect: To cross each other.
Concept
Determine the intersecting point on graphs.
Rules
- To determine an intersecting point, look where the two graphs cross each other.
- An intersecting point is written in the form (x,y). The x –coordinate is the horizontal axis and the y-coordinate is the vertical axis.
Example
Review the graph below and choose the coordinate where the lines intersect.

(-10, 6)

(6, -10)

(-4, 0)

(-4, -6)

Solution
Coordinate points are written in the form (x,y). The x –coordinate is the horizontal axis and the y-coordinate is the vertical axis.
To determine a point's coordinates, first, you list the x-value, then the y-value. The coordinate where the two lines intersect is (-10, 6). Lines intersect when they cross each other.
