Coordinate Point: A pair of numbers used to locate a point in the coordinate plane. 

Coordinate Plane: A coordinate system in which a horizontal number line and a vertical number line intersect at their zero points.

Intersect: To cross each other.

Concept

Determine the intersecting point on graphs.

Rules

1. To determine an intersecting point, look where the two graphs cross each other.
2. An intersecting point is written in the form (x,y). The x –coordinate is the horizontal axis and the y-coordinate is the vertical axis.

Example

Review the graph below and choose the coordinate where the lines intersect.

Solution

Coordinate points are written in the form (x,y). The x –coordinate is the horizontal axis and the y-coordinate is the vertical axis.

To determine a point's coordinates, first, you list the x-value, then the y-value. The coordinate where the two lines intersect is (-10, 6). Lines intersect when they cross each other.
