Concept

Percentage is a fraction or a ratio in which the value of whole is always 100.
Percentage is defined as a given part or amount in every hundred. It is a fraction with 100 as the denominator and is represented by the symbol “%”.

Percent is another name for indicating hundredths. Thus, 1% is one-hundredth, that means 1% = \fn_phv \frac{1}{100} = 0.01.

Rules

Convert fraction to percent:
To convert a fraction to a percent, first divide the numerator by the denominator. Then multiply the decimal by 100.
Another method to convert fractions to percent is by using equivalent fractions.

Convert decimal to percent:
To convert a decimal into a percentage, multiply by 100.

Example

Write the fraction as a percentage.

Solution

Use equivalent fractions to solve the problem.
\fn_phv \frac{18}{50}=\frac{x}{100}
\fn_phv \frac{18\times 2}{50\times 2}=\frac{36}{100}=36%
