(old)Distance between two points

Distance between two points

Concept

Find the distance between two horizontal or vertical points in a coordinate plane.

Rules

Count the units from point A to point B to find the distance.
To find the distance between two horizontal points, subtract the x-coordinates.
To find the distance between two vertical points, subtract the y-coordinates.

Example

What is the distance between A ( -3, 4) and B (2, 4)?

Solution

We can count 5 units going from point A to B. We can also find the distance by subtracting the x-coordinates 2 – (-3) = 5 units.
